Many Fort Smith soldiers returned home on Sunday (June 22) after being deployed for several months.

Captain Tina Sorensen is one of the soldiers who returned home. She is a fifth grade teacher at Mountainburg Middle School. Sorenson missed last year, because of her deployment in Afghanistan. Now that she's back, she said she's ready to see her students again.

"I've had quite a few letters written to me while I was away," she said. "It was nice to hear from the kids at school. Kids are wonderful and I can't wait to get back to teaching."

Staff Sergeant Josh Heidelberg also returned home on Sunday.  Heidelberg has a son and said he was a little worried about returning home after beind deployed for fifteen months.

"It's kinda nervous coming in," he said. "I haven't seen my kid in while, he was only one when I left. I was so nervous he wouldn't know me."

More soldiers from the unit in Fort Chaffee are expected to return to Fort Smith later this week.
