U.S. Rep. Tim Griffin, R-Ark., appeared on "5NEWS This Morning" on June 14 in an interview segment with Managing Editor Larry Henry. Griffin is vying for the post in the November general election against Democrat John Burkhalter.

During the segment, Griffin said having a lieutenant governor is important. The position has been vacant since earlier this year, when Mark Darr resigned over questions about spending.

A permanent Lt. Gov. position in Arkansas (which under Darr required a staff of around 5) amounts to nothing but political welfare. It has become a place for otherwise worthless politicians and their staff cronies to hide out and wait for something better to come along. As Darr showed, it is an office easily abused and misused and a Rove acolyte like Griffin won’t be changing that.
