The Rodeo of the Ozarks is officially underway in Springdale.

Following the annual parade, the rodeo kicked off with mutton-busting and steer wrestling.

In the past few years, the rodeo has been scheduled on summer weekends other than the 4th of July weekend.

But this year, rodeo fans are glad to have it this week.

"It's a fun atmosphere,” said Hannah Higgins, a rodeo attendee. “The food is great, the people are great.” Rodeo events kicked off after a parade earlier in the day.

"[We are] trying to create some memories,” said Adam Rutherford, a rodeo attendee. “I grew up going to the rodeo.”

Those at Wednesday’s rodeo events say they are happy to have this rodeo leading into the holiday weekend.

"It’s awesome. Yeah, it's just awesome,” Rutherford said.

The rodeo starting Wednesday is kicking the week off just right for many.

"[We want to] enjoy the long weekend, and just get it started off on the right foot," said Kate Sorrell, a rodeo attendee.

There’s entertainment for all ages and sizes at the rodeo.

"[Showing] this one right here, just seeing the cows and stuff, and the lamb, that's what makes it worth it," Rutherford said about attending the event with a child alongside.

Some say there’s no better way to celebrate Americas independence than at the rodeo.

"What's more American than a cowboy?" Higgins said.

This rodeo marks the 70th year the event has been in Springdale.

Event officials tell 5NEWS they hope it will be around for another 70 years to come.
