Man Punched Deputy In The Face After Driving Into Mailboxes, Report States

A Fayetteville man punched a deputy after hitting several mailboxes with his car Thursday night, according to local police.

Dominique Taylor, 21, was arrested on suspicion of second-degree battery, leaving the scene of property damage, reckless driving and driving under the influence of drugs. He remained Friday in the Washington County Detention Center on $5,000 bond, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Taylor’s arraignment is set for Aug. 13, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Police said Taylor ran into several mailboxes with his car on Betty Jo Drive and Jewell Road. A responding officer noticed mailboxes sticking out of the man’s car and arrested him, according to Fayetteville police.

Taylor later punched a detention officer while getting booked into jail, according to a preliminary report released by the Washington County Prosecutor’s Office.

Deputy Brian Magee was struck in the left cheek bone, causing swelling and pain. Taylor was then also struck in the face, causing swelling, according to the report. The preliminary report does not state who struck the suspect in the face.
