LITTLE ROCK (KFSM) - The proposed Arkansas alcoholic beverage amendment that would enable all counties in the state to sell booze whether they were previously wet or dry fell short of the required number of signatures, officials say.

In total, the initiative had 61,000 signatures verified by the office of the Arkansas secretary of state. The initiative needed 78,133 total to be included on the upcoming November ballot, according to officials.

This means that organizers with the group Let Arkansas Decide, who are backing the ballot initiative, have 30 more days to get 17,133 additional signatures, officials said.

Let Arkansas Decide has until Aug. 18 at 5 p.m. to turn in the required number of signatures if the group wants the initiative to appear on the ballot, according to officials.
