ROGERS (KFSM)- The Rogers Animal Shelter is unveiling some major upgrades for its cats after it got a $50,000 check from Purina Cat Chow.

The celebration is at 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.  and they'll have live music and food. Pets are available for $61, which includes a microchip as well as spay and neutering.

Daylen Schumacher, assistant manager, said they were speechless when the donation was announced.

"We haven't had much of anything like this before," he said. "We were just very happy to get it and be able to use it for something more for these animals."

Purina Cat Chow chose three cat shelters in the country. The money was used to renovate and make the cat area bigger.

"It's going to make it a lot less stressful, it's going to be healthier, there's going to be more air flow," Schumacher said. "It's going to be a lot more space so they aren't so cramped together."

The new area includes a safe outdoor "catio" space, cat resistant screens and doors, and furniture. The building also has a wheelchair accessible entry in order for everyone to get into the area to play and adopt a cat.

Purina Cat Chow also provided a team of 30 volunteers to help complete the makeover.
