The tax free holiday has allowed shoppers to save nearly ten percent on clothing items under $100, and for local clothing boutiques, saving sales tax means more business.
Shannon Suttie and Presley Covington are sales associates at Belle Boutique in Fayetteville, and said the holiday had their store buzzing with shoppers.
"The second we opened people were in the door within ten minutes, and the whole store was full and it didn't slow down all day," Covington said.
Covington said the tax free weekend gives smaller stores an edge over the larger retail stores.
"It's a pretty big deal, I mean I think it's a really great opportunity for people who don't normally shop at boutiques," The employee said, "This might have given them a little break, and they could come in and get what they wanted tax free."
Suttie said even though the savings is just under ten percent, shoppers appreciate every cent they save.
"It's definitely a good time to come in and get a lot, because it really does help more than you think getting your taxes taken off," She said.
Sales associate Meredith Sokora from the Maude boutique in Fayetteville said it can be hard to pay the bills in a privately owned business.
"It's really great for use just because we are local, and we really do need the people from Fayetteville, Springdale and Rogers to come in, and to get the business that we need to stay afloat," Sokora said.
She said the store has seen double the sales the last 48 hours compared to a typically Saturday and Sunday.
"We had some people that came in that just didn't know it was this weekend, that way when they were at the checkout they were super excited and shopped more, so that helped too," Sokora said.
The tax free holiday ends Sunday at 11:59 p.m. School items are also tax free.
