Local Athletes Compete In Burger Eating Contest

Five area schools took part in annual contest put on by ESPN radio

Every year ESPN Radio puts on a hamburger eating contest for local high school athletes as part of their "Football Trip of a Lifetime" contest. And every year it's hard to watch.

Football players from Northside, Southside, Greenwood, Alma and Van Buren took part in the contest at Hardee's in Fort Smith. Contestants tried to eat as many thickburgers as possible in a five minute span.

Greenwood's Korban Waldemar took the crown after pounding three burgers before time expired but he gave credit to another fast food joint for his success.

"I kind of had the technique of going to McDonalds like every day, twice a day," Waldemar said. "So eating four or five McDoubles in a row and then this wasn't a problem."
