ROGERS CITY HALL

BENTON COUNTY (KFSM) – A special prosecutor was sworn in Friday morning to investigate whether the Rogers city attorney impersonated a police officer.

Crawford County Prosecutor Marc McCune was assigned the special prosecutor to the case because of a conflict of interest involving the Benton County prosecutor. McCune was sworn in by Benton County Circuit Judge Brad Karren, according to Karren’s office.

Officials said the investigation stems from a complaint the City of Rogers received alleging city attorney Ben Lipscomb impersonated a police officer in Bentonville. The city forwarded the complaint to the Benton County Prosecutor’s Office.

“An investigation was conducted, and the file was sealed awaiting the appointment of a special prosecutor,” according to a statement released by Rogers Mayor Greg Hines. “It would be inappropriate for me to comment any further at this time.”

Bentonville police investigated the situation, and McCune was later named as the special prosecutor in the case by the Arkansas Office of the Prosecutor Coordinator, Rogers city officials said.
