STEPHENS COUNTY, Okla. (KFSM) – A former Fort Smith EMS dispatcher and a 17-year-old girl were killed in a two-car collision last Saturday (August 23) in Stephens County, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
Brittany Lemus, 26, of Comanche, Oklahoma was riding in the passenger seat of a Toyota Corolla being driven by a 17-year-old girl. According to troopers on scene, the car was travelling southbound on US-81, just north of Refinery Road, when the driver veered right for an unknown reason. She then overcorrected and crossed the center line, hitting a Dodge Ram driven by James Alexander, 57, of Loco, Oklahoma.
Lemus and the 17-year-old were trapped for nearly three hours before being freed by the Duncan Fire Department using the Jaws of Life. However, both died at the scene, according to authorities.
Lemus was a former dispatcher with Fort Smith EMS, according to their facebook page.
Alexander and three minors, who were passengers in his car, were taken to Duncan Regional Hospital where they were treated and released.
Passengers in both cars were wearing their seatbelts, according to troopers on scene.
