ROGERS (KFSM)- The Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) in Rogers is hosting a vigil to commemorate Sept. 11, 2001. It will be held at the Rogers Airport Thursday at 6 p.m.

Anyone is welcome to attend. If it rains, they plan to move the event to the VFW Post on Old Wire Road in Rogers.

Carol Gold, auxiliary president, is from New Jersey. She said her cousin's husband worked in the New York City Fire Department during the attacks.

"He had first hand experience as to what the devastation was on that," Gold said. "It's just a day that we need to remember and keep in our hearts."

They plan to sing the National Anthem. The guest speaker will be Rogers Fire Chief Tom Jenkins.

"It's so that we don't forget the guys and ladies who are out there everyday of the week, 24 hours a day taking care of us, defending us, protecting us," Gold said. "That's basically what it is to remember them and to let them know that even though we had this tragic, horrible thing happen, it made us stronger and more complete."

There will be a spaghetti dinner after the event at the VFW post on Old Wire Road. If it rains, the event will get moved to the VFW office, Gold said.
