FORT SMITH (KFSM) - In conjunction with Prostate Cancer Awareness Month this September, doctors at Sparks Health Systems are teaming up to teach people about prostate cancer.

Prostate cancer is the second most deadly type of cancer for men. According to a news release from Sparks, more than two million men across the United States are prostate cancer survivors. Some people are more at risk of getting the cancer than others.

Dr. John Terrell, MD, of Sparks Urology Group, said there are ways men can increase their chances of survival.

"Early detection is the actual key to survival." Terrell said. "It's a very curable disease. We have a lot of good treatment options available for prostate cancer."

As part of the Lifelong Learning Lecture Series, Dr. Terrell will discuss prostate cancer screenings and treatment options at UA Fort Smith. That lecture will take place Wednesday, Sept. 24 at Echols Conference Room EC106 on campus.

The university charges $5 per lecture. For more information, call (479) 788-7220.
