FORT SMITH (KFSM) – A few days before the U.S. Marshals Museum groundbreaking ceremony, officials announced that the museum had received an anonymous $5 million pledge, according to a news release.

The pledge will be payable before the end of 2015, the release states.

“We’re overwhelmed with gratitude for this $5 million gift,” said Jim Dunn, president and CEO of the museum. “It represents the largest pledge we’ve received to date, and it provides us a great deal of momentum in our fundraising efforts.”

The groundbreaking ceremony is set for Sept. 24, and the event will launch the first phase of the project, which is, exhibit design, architectural design and site preparation, according to the release.

Including the newest pledge, the museum has raised just under $20 million toward the project. The total project will cost over $50 million, according to a spokesman for the museum.
