FORT SMITH (KFSM)—The third annual Paint Downtown Pink took off Saturday (Sept. 27) at 8:30 a.m. at the Riverfront Pavilion. Western Arkansas Runners put on the 5-K run/walk.

“We have our sanctioned route, the runners come in and they run through Belle Grove District, which is a beautiful course,” Lorna Armstrong, organizer said.

It’s an event for the community to come together and support both the Ozark affiliate of Susan G. Komen and the Special Olympics Arkansas Area 4.

“Another big thing is all of the money stays local, right here, and that’s a big plus,” Armstrong said.

“Cancer affects about every family, and it’s not something that’s prevalent in speaking with individuals with intellectual disabilities and they are not immune to it,” Alesia Sexton, volunteer said.

Organizers said at least 250 runners and walkers participated in the race.

Logan’s Steakhouse is also holding a fundraiser the rest of the day (Sept. 27), where they’ll donate 20-percent of your entrée to Special Olympics and Susan G. Komen.
