WASHINGTON COUNTY (KFSM) – A Washington County deputy is continuing to heal after being accidentally shot and seriously wounded during a domestic disturbance case, authorities say.

Cpl. Taylor Reed arrived at 12397 S. Whitehouse Road, near Elkins on Aug. 20 at 9:30 p.m. A suspect was accused of killing his father, and when Reed arrived at the residence, the suspect’s mother shot the deputy, mistaking Reed for her husband’s killer, according to authorities.

Reed was taken to Washington Regional Medical Center in a critical but stable condition that evening, authorities said. He had surgery to remove the bullet in his body, and on Aug. 20, he was released from the hospital to continue his recovery at home, authorities said.

The first photo in the gallery below is of Reed and his K-9 partner Cody not long after he was released from the hospital. The other photos in the gallery below are from a ceremony held on Oct. 2 in honor of Reed, according to authorities.
