FORT SMITH (KFSM) - A new brewery and restaurant opened in downtown Fort Smith on Monday (Oct.27).

Bricktown Brewery on Garrison Avenue was once Varsity Sports Bar, which had been for 25 years. The renovations to upgrade the new dining area started months ago and cost $500,000.

Bricktown Brewery started in Oklahoma and has six locations around the state. The Fort Smith location is their first establishment in Arkansas. The owners have hired 75 new people to work at the restaurant.

The brewery offers more than two dozen beers on tap from microbreweries in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Kansas. The general manager said they choose to bring local flavors first.

"As much as we are a brewery, we are a full service restaurant, "said Kathy Young. "We are all about local beer and local flavor."

The restaurant is open until 11:00 Monday through Thursday. Then open until midnight on Friday and Saturday.

"This is our first time out of Oklahoma and we are so excited to be here, everyone has really embraced us," Young said.
