ALMA (KFSM) - A new smartphone application that gives kids instant answers to math problems is causing concern for parents and teachers.

The app is called PhotoMath.

"The app is pretty good," said Alma math specialist Nancy Rhodes. "I think that would be the initial response ‘Oh boy I can get the answer I can get the right one and be done with this."’

The app allows users to the scan the math problem with a phone to get an answer within seconds, but Rhodes said the app is not always correct.

"You want to figure out on your own how to work these problems, it can be a useful tool, if it's not abused," Rhodes said.

The app is free to download.
