ALMA (KFSM) -- Candidates for Alma mayor spent the evening pitching their ideas to voters, and answered questions at the Alma Performing Arts Center Tuesday (Oct. 28).

Voters in Alma will decide between three candidates for mayor.

Keith Greene is a retired businessman.

"Our goals are to continue on the projects that are already approved and in motion. and just monitor the completion of the Interstate 49 and try to match up our assets with the opportunities,” Greene said.

Ed Thicksten is a former state representative.

"We don't even have an exit in Alma. People just assume that that's the case -- well we don't,” Thicksten said. So once the planning goes for the final phase of doing those plans, I want to make sure that we've got an exit. And unless you have a strong voice, it's not going to be heard and be just like it is right now with no exit.”

Gary Perry is a reverend at Visionary Christian Church in Alma.

"Special emphasis needs to be put on economic development,” Perry said. As you are aware we don't have many large businesses in Alma. And I think special emphasis needs to be put on that."
All three candidates said it's time to re-brand the city, formerly known as the “Spinach Capital of theWorld.”

Current mayor John Ballentine is not seeking re-election.
