GREEN FOREST (KFSM) – The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office arrested a person of interest in a Boone County rape case at the home of a registered sex offender near Green Forest, according to a news release.

Charles Briley, 38, was booked into the Carroll County jail on Monday (Oct. 27), deputies say.

He was wanted on an absconder warrant from multiple law enforcement agencies, according to the release.

Deputies originally looked for Briley on Oct. 22, but they were unable to locate him. They set out to find him again on Oct. 27 with multiple law enforcement agencies, including the U.S. Marshal’s Service. Records from the Arkansas Crime Information Center identify that registered sex offender as Howard V. Hughes, 50, of Green Forest. Hughes is a level three sex offender. He lied to authorities, saying, Briley wasn’t in his home, the release states.
