GREEN FOREST (KFSM) – The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office arrested a person of interest in a Boone County rape case at the home of a registered sex offender near Green Forest, according to a news release.

Charles Briley, 38, was booked into the Carroll County jail on Monday (Oct. 27), deputies say.

He was wanted on an absconder warrant from multiple law enforcement agencies, according to the release.

Deputies originally looked for Briley on Oct. 22, but they were unable to locate him. They set out to find him again on Oct. 27 with multiple law enforcement agencies, including the U.S. Marshal’s Service. He was found at a registered sex offender’s home in the 100 block of County Road 8534 near Green Forest, deputies said.

Records from the Arkansas Crime Information Center identify that registered sex offender as Howard V. Hughes, 50, of Green Forest. Hughes is a level three sex offender. He lied to authorities, saying, Briley wasn’t in his home, the release states.

Briley ran out the back door of Hughes’ home into the woods, and authorities gave chase. He didn’t get far and was taken into custody by authorities, according to the release.

He injured his leg and was treated at Mercy Hospital in Berryville at 214 Carter St., according to the release.

After being released from the hospital, he was booked into the Carroll County Detention Center, the release states.

Hughes was also booked into the detention center on suspicion of hindering apprehension, according to the release.
