LOWELL (KFSM)- The Lowell Animal Shelter has taken in 22 cats and kittens, which they rescued from a Lowell home.

Shelter Director Ray Drummond said the shelter was called to a do a welfare check at the home when they found the animals were not being properly taken care of.

"They had a good heart and that is usually the case," Drummond said. "They think they are doing the right thing, but they get overwhelmed."

According to Drummond, seven of the cats and kittens have been adopted, so they have 15 more that need to be adopted or fostered. The shelter charges a $55 adoption fee for cats, which includes necessary shots and spaying or neutering. Drummond said some of the cats and kittens can be adopted for free thanks to donations to the shelter.
