Arkansas Women Win 2nd Straight To Start Season

Razorbacks rout Savannah State 75-46

FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) - Jessica Jackson scored a game high 19 points and 12 rebounds as Arkansas picked up their second straight win to start the year after a convincing 75-46 win over Savannah State.

Arkansas (2-0) held Savannah State to just 29 percent shooting while the Razorbacks had four players finish in double figures. Melissa Wolff had 14 points and 10 rebounds while Kelsey Brooks added 12 and Katie Powell finished with 10.

Despite the lopsided win, first year coach Jimmy Dykes wasn't pleased with how his team played in the middle stretch of the second half.

"There was a time in the second half where I told them in a timeout that we are not playing like we're supposed to play," Dykes said. "The gym was quiet. I looked at our defense, they were standing up, not talking, weren't fighting. There's no excuse for that. Being up 25 or 30, there's no excuse to play basketball like that so we corrected it down the stretch. (I'm) Happy to be 2-0 and now it gets a whole lot more serious Thursday at Middle Tennessee State."

Arkansas shot 47 percent from the field and had all nine players in the scoring column.

"We were just a little sloppy with the basketball," Dykes said. "Part of that is probably on me. I'm still trying to figure out who we are offensively, what's best for us to run. A lot of times I'm kind of doing things on the fly a little bit, maybe putting them in some positions in game action that we haven't done a lot of stuff in practice but that's OK. I'm learning like they are."
