FORT SMITH (KFSM) – All across the River Valley, people prepared Sunday (Nov. 16) for winter weather.

Chad Adams with the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department said about eight salt trucks were preparing Sebastian County roads Sunday.

Nathan Hipps said he's ready for the winter weather. His truck is loaded up with wood in preparation for the possibility of slick roads.

"My truck is little and it needs a little extra weight to weigh it down for traction."

Sue Roberts of Greenwood said she stocked up on groceries to prepare.

"I don't drive on the roads. I stay in when it gets like this,” Roberts said.

Alan Nolan is a tow truck operator for John's Auto Center in Fort Smith and said he will be ready for any accidents.

"I haven't done any wreck runs tonight. I don't expect it to get real bad but if it does, [I'm] absolutely ready,” Nolan said.

Hipps said he will be taking extra safety precautions while on the roads.

"I'm hoping they're not going to be as bad as they say they're going to be. But I take precaution and I drive slow. I look out for people around me."

He said he'll be out driving no matter what the conditions are like Monday (Nov. 17) morning.

"It doesn’t matter if it’s two feet of snow -- I’ll be in it,” Hipps said.
