Four Protesters Arrested In Fayetteville Michael Brown Rally

FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) - Four demonstrators were arrested in downtown Fayetteville on Tuesday (Nov. 25) while protesting the grand jury's decision to not indict Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of 18-year-old Michael Brown, police said.

More than 30 people held a civil disobedience protest Tuesday afternoon outside the Washington County Courthouse.  They waved signs and chanted slogans.

Police arrested Jane Stitt, Michael Robbins, Jared Carter and David Garcia during the demonstration. They were arrested after they sat in the road at the intersection of College Avenue and Dickson Street, where they blocked traffic and refused police demands to move.

"Symbols can be powerful," Robbins said. "So it's important to make a statement that this is not okay."

"When there is an injustice even if it relates to you or not directly, you have to stand up," Carter said.

Protest organizers said they had discussed their plans with the Fayetteville Police Department prior to holding the demonstration. The department worked with the demonstrators to ensure the protest was safe for everyone involved.

"They have been very forthcoming about their expectations and what they expect to do," said Sgt. Craig Stout with the Fayetteville Police Department. "We told them what we would have to do in response."

Stout said the protest was peaceful with no destruction or chaos.

"Ultimately for them it is about the ability to protest what they feel is an injustice that happened in Missouri," he said.

Police said the four protesters who were arrested on Tuesday face charges of disorderly conduct. All of them had their bond set at $265. Stitt, Carter and Robbins have bonded out, according to the Washington County Detention Center website.

      I have no problem with how FPD reacted and worked in unity with our protesters. A fine wasn’t necessary. A simple release down at the police station would have been sufficient and fulfilling. No money should have ever exchanged hands. There should be NO mug shot or processing. It wasn’t like they were being violent or unruly, much less noncompliant with FPD. How ironic money has to be exchanged and implemented in the capitalist governmental model. Once you’re marked, you’re marked in our system. White privilege exists, and it’s taken for granted. Are you thankful, or are you prideful and racist?

And if they had not been booked in properly and fined, I bet you would say that it was because 3 out of 4 of them are white and you would demand justice because of it. And harmless as this event may sound, what if someone was driving their pregnant wife to the hospital but could not get there because of the 4 yahoos sitting in the road?         It’s long past the time lazy, entitlement-minded, racist blacks begin to take responsibility for their actions. Drugs, promiscuity, and a confrontational “you owe us” mentality will never let them rise above their current level. Guilt-ridden whites only exacerbate the problem. Blacks need to take ownership of their attitudes and actions, and quit expecting the whites to provide for their every need. Those who have, succeeded, and do well. Peaceful protest is OK, rioting and looting is not, and sooner or later authorities will take the kind of action these criminals understand. Fayetteville police did a great job.

      the media has sensationalized this story to the point that it has caused death in the streets. if everyone would look at the videos and facts that are presented they could make a rational judgement about this story and there would be less violence.     The Constitution says a person is innocent until proven guilty. The grand jury found him innocent. What are you protesting? OJ Simpson was acquitted of murder and nobody protested.

Black cops have shot unarmed whites and black cops have shot unarmed blacks. As for south Africa you can go ahead. At the end of the day, a cop wants to go home to his family just like you do. He doesn’t know what danger lurks or what skin color may try to attack.     They have No Right to Block a Public Street. My Tax dollars pay to build and maintain that street. It is Not the ‘Right’ of Any One individual to Block my acess to travel that street.
