BARLING (KFSM) - Authorities made a Thanksgiving day marijuana bust, police say.
Investigators with the Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at 6 a.m. on Nov. 27 at 405 Chateau Street and found multiple marijuana plants and drug paraphernalia, according to a news release.
Christopher Noel, 34, and Shawna Talkington, 31, were both booked into the Sebastian County Detention Center, the release states.
On Nov. 26 at 7 p.m., officers with the Barling Police Department arrived at Chateau Street in response to a possible domestic disturbance case. When police got there, they saw Noel running away and trying to climb a fence. He was caught by police and placed under arrest on suspicion of public intoxication, according to the release.
Authorities then spoke with Talkington, who was standing on the porch of the residence. Her left eye was swollen, and she had multiple bruises and abrasions to her face and head, the release states. She told police Noel was not the one who struck her, according to the release.
Police went inside the residence and found Talkington's brother, Jess Lamb, 25, inside a bedroom. His shirt was torn, and it was clear that he had been in some sort of fight, the release states.
Officers noticed suspected marijuana and pieces of drug paraphernalia in plain view - namely, multiple water pipes, bongs and marijuana grinders, according to the release.
After an investigation, authorities found that Lamb had picked up Talkington's six-year-old son by the ears and "head-butted" him on his head, the release states.
He was also booked into the Sebastian County Detention Center and faces two counts of aggravated assault on a family or household member, according to the release.
Members of the 12th Judicial Drug Task Force were called in to deal with the marijuana items in the household. While an investigator spoke with Talkington, her six-year-old son led police back into the residence and said he wanted to show them something. He guided them into the bedroom and said that what he showed them needed to remain a secret, the release states.
The child then pointed to a large water bong on the dresser and said, "You can't take this. It helps my daddy go puff-puff," according to the release. While explaining, he mimicked the motions one would make while using the smoking device. After that, he opened the closet and said, "This helps my dad to make bubbles," the release states. Inside the closet, under fluorescent lightning and a humidifier, police found three suspected marijuana plants growing, the release states.
While Talkington was giving her statement to an investigator, she heard her six-year-old son in the next room and shouted at him, "Shut up! Shut the [expletive] up," according to the release.
Talkington told the investigator the residence belonged to her husband, Jacob Talkington, who was in Florida with his girlfriend. She said that she had been staying at the residence with her brother and son for the previous three days, the release states.
The investigator asked Talkington for permission to search the home and to remove any illegal substances contained within it. She refused and said she wanted to take the blame for everything in the house, according to the release.
Shortly after, she was arrested, and her son was turned over to the custody of his grandfather, the release states.
Hours later, a search warrant was obtained, and it was executed on Thanksgiving morning, according to the release.
Authorities removed the three suspected marijuana plants and everything else related to them, including a shotgun, the release states.
Talkington faces charges of first-degree endangering the welfare of a minor, maintaining a premises for drug sales, simultaneous possession of drugs and a firearm, manufacturing a schedule VI narcotic, possession of a schedule VI narcotic and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the release.
Lamb faces all those same charges in addition to two counts of aggravated assault on a family or household member, the release states. Lamb and Talkington are both being held without bond, and Talkington's husband hasn't yet been located, according to the release.
A report was also filed with the Department of Human Services in an attempt to follow up on the living conditions of the six-year-old child involved, the release states.
