LEFLORE COUNTY (KFSM) – Fire crews responded to a large grass fire in LeFlore County on Saturday (Nov. 29) that burned more than 100 acres, authorities say.

The fire started around 3:30 p.m. at a residence on Morris Creek Road just south of Poteau, said LeFlore County Undersheriff Kendall Morgan.

Morgan said a resident burning trash in the backyard caused the fire, and said wind played a major role in the fire spreading.

Nine departments, including the Oklahoma Forestry Commission, worked the fire. It took crews around five hours to get the fire contained, Morgan said.

The resident faces no charges at this time, Morgan said.
