LITTLE ROCK (KFSM) – Republican Gov.-Elect Asa Hutchinson announced a new insurance commissioner for Arkansas on Wednesday (Dec. 17), according to a news release.

Hutchinson announced that Rep. Allen Kerr, R-Little Rock, would take on the position, the release states.

“I am pleased to announce Representative Allen Kerr as my new Insurance Commissioner,” he said. “Along with his experience in the legislature and his breadth of knowledge in the insurance industry, Allen will also bring with him a fresh look at the department.”

Kerr has served six years in the Arkansas House of Representatives and has 34 years of insurance experience, according to the release.

Hutchinson also announced that Sheila Sharp would stay on as community correction director, the release states.

The gov.-elect appointed Brigadier General Mark H. Berry as the 52nd Adjutant General of Arkansas, according to the release. Berry has a military career that spans more than 40 years, the release states.

After he defeated Democrat Mike Ross in the November election, it was announced that Hutchinson would be inaugurated on Jan. 13.
