MANHATTAN (KFSM) - Online retail-giant Amazon announced on Dec. 18 it would launch one-hour delivery in Manhattan, according to a news release.

The service is for Amazon Prime members and will be called "Prime Now." It will cost $7.99 per delivery and be available from 6 a.m. to 12 a.m., the release states. Amazon plans to roll out the service to other cities in 2015.

One-hour delivery will be available for thousands of daily essential items, the release states. Available items will include paper towels, shampoo, books, toys, batteries and more delivered straight to the home of those ordering the products, according to the release. Amazon Prime members can order the above-mentioned items through a smartphone app.

“There are times when you can’t make it to the store and other times when you simply don’t want to go," said Dave Clark, Amazon’s senior vice president of worldwide operations. "There are so many reasons to skip the trip and now Prime members in Manhattan can get the items they need delivered in an hour or less.”

Amazon Prime is an annual membership program that costs $99 and gives customers unlimited free two-day shipping on millions of items. Users also get access to thousands of movies, songs and television episodes with their membership, the release states.
