FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) – A Fayetteville man was sentenced to 30 years in prison on Dec. 18 for attempting to kill a police informant and another 10 years for selling methamphetamine, officials say.

Lasaba Hill, 42, was booked into the Washington County Detention Center on July 28 and charged with intimidating an informant, possession of a firearm by certain persons, first-degree stalking, second-degree battery, possession of meth or cocaine with purpose to deliver and attempted capital murder, according to jail records.

In addition to the 40 years he was sentenced to for attempted capital murder and delivery of meth, he also received 10 years for intimidating an informant and 15 for first-degree stalking, but those sentences will be served concurrently with the other 40 years, according to officials.

Before his sentencing, Hill was being held on a bond of $203,500, jail records state. He also received an enhanced sentence due to being labeled a “habitual offender,” court records state.

On July 28, police responded to the 900 block of West Holly Street, according to an arrest report.

When they arrived, an injured man later revealed to be a police informant ran up to authorities and said he was struck by Hill, who had a handgun, the report states.

The informant told police Hill came up to him while he was sitting outside on the second floor of an apartment complex and started to strike him with a handgun, according to the report.

Hill had learned the informant was going to testify against him in court, and he told the man he was going to kill him to make sure he didn’t testify, the report states.

The informant was struck multiple times, and Hill eventually pushed him over the rail, causing him to fall about eight feet, the report states.

After falling, the informant took off running, and he turned around in time to see Hill fire a shot from the gun, according to the report. Hill left after that, and police arrived not long after, according to the report.

Police found a bullet lodged in a nearby fence and noted the informant had multiple injuries, the report states. The informant said he feared for his life, according to the report.

During the incident, a separate witness called in to say they overheard the threats made against the informant, and they also expressed fear of retaliation for calling the police, the report states.
