WASHINGTON COUNTY (KFSM)- Firefighters and emergency crews responded to a house fire at 23954 highway 62 west of Summers, which is an unincorporated area in Washington County.

The fire destroyed the home, according to Jay Norton, with the Lincoln Fire Department. The call came in at 2:24 a.m. Monday (Dec. 22).

Luis Ruiz, 70, his son Leon Ruiz, 33, and son’s friend Micah Lance Edwards were at home at the time of the fire, according to Soledad Ruiz, daughter.

Soledad is in Chicago and was notified by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Firefighters from Farmington, Lincoln, Prairie Grove and Westville assisted in the fire.

“It started in the vicinity of a wood stove,” said Jay Norton, with the Lincoln Fire Department.

Soledad said her father was taken to Washington Regional Medical Center and has pneumonia. He had been in bed for days, she said. Her brother, she said, had smoke inhalation.

She said her brother and his friend had to carry their dad out of the home because he was too weak.

“Please keep my father in your prayers,” she said.

The single story home is near the Arkansas, Oklahoma state line. The Fire Marshall is investigating.
