FORT SMITH (KFSM) – The city of Fort Smith is moving up Thursday trash collection because of the New Year’s holiday. Crews will also collect customers’ Christmas trees, according to a statement released this week by the city.

Garbage, recyclables and yard waste that are usually picked up Thursday will be collected by the Department of Sanitation on Wednesday. All other trash days will stay the same, according to the city.

Sanitation workers will also pick up Christmas trees on collection days, as long as all ornaments and decorations have been removed. Customers should place their trees on the curb for crews to pick up, according to the city’s statement.

City offices are closed Thursday for New Year’s Day, and the Fort Smith Transit Department will operate no fixed routes, although it will provide limited demand response services.
