BENTON COUNTY (KFSM) The Benton County Office of Emergency Management has made upgrades to the county alert system.

The alert system can now be downloaded as an application for smartphones that runs on both Apple and Android systems.

Users can sign up for an account by going to BCAlert.com  then they can follow directions to download the app, which is called Everbridge Member, according to Michael DeRose, the director of the Benton County Office of Emergency Management.

The app allows users to customize their accounts and the way they receive alerts, DeRose said.

“I think we’ll see a lot more participation in the system because people will have more control over it and more flexibility,” he added.

DeRosa said users who created an account on the previous system will need to sign up for a new account and download the app as the county begins to phase out the old system.
