FORT SMITH (KFSM) -- Many students will head back to school Monday (Jan. 5) following the holiday break.

After about two weeks of time off, it's almost time for Liberty and Serynity to head back to class.

“Their first day of break was on the 19th,” Kendra McAfee, their mother, said.

Second grader Serynity didn't have homework over break, so she was able to play games like Connect Four and Battleship with her family. They said they also watched movies and enjoyed riding the train at Creekmore Park in Fort Smith.

"We have to get up early, get back into the routine -- which consists of getting up at 6:30 to get them ready. And then get them up to the school by 7:00 so they can make their bus,” McAfee said.

One thing is done every night in preparation for the next day: picking out what to wear.

“After their teeth are brushed, we go in the room and get out their school clothes because it makes it a lot easier in the morning to have their school clothes laid out,” she said.

The McAfees said the goal is to get the kids in bed by 8:00 p.m.

"Showers, teeth brushed, all that -- done by eight,” McAfee said.

And in the morning, they're off to Sunnymede Elementary School.

In northwest Arkansas, a few school districts will not open until Tuesday (Jan. 6). This includes Fayetteville and Springdale.

But, for students attending Rogers public schools, they do have class Monday (Jan. 5).

If you're unsure when your child goes back to class just call your school district.
