CINCINNATI (CBSNews)- An Ohio man has been indicted for threatening to murder House speaker John Boehner.
According to court documents Michael Hoyt was a bartender at Wetherington Country Club in West Chester, Ohio for five and half years before being fired in October 2014. Speaker Boehner is a member at that club and according to court documents Hoyt had allegedly served Boehner many times.
Court documents say Hoyt has previously been treated for psychotic episodes approximately two years prior to this incident. Hoyt was also allegedly prescribed psychotropic medication which he voluntarily stopped taking after about six months. According to the legal documents, Hoyt believed Boehner was mean to him when they interacted at the club and that he was responsible for Ebola.
Court documents state that Hoyt’s boss had been aware of his previous treatment. After he was fired from his job at the country club, Hoyt claimed he began hearing voices from the devil from the radio in his car and at his home. The voices, he said, were telling him that John Boehner was evil. Hoyt called 911 last October 29 and told a Deer Park police officer that he needed to kill John Boehner.
When questioned by police, Hoyt told police that he had no actual intention of hurting Boehner or anyone else. He explained to officers that no one checks the drinks he poured for Boehner and he could have very easily slipped something into his drink.
The criminal complaint states that Hoyt had several weapons in his possession including a .380 Baretta automatic pistol, knives, and an ax. Court documents show that Hoyt’s mother had previously removed an SKS assault rifle from her son’s home.
On October 31, pursuant to a search warrant, law enforcement agents conducted a search of Hoyt’s Cincinnati residence and seized weapon-related items including an SKS assault rifle magazine and loose rounds, 2 boxes of ammunition, 35 loose rounds and a speed loader, and box of .380 caliber rounds. A notebook containing “John Boehner” and “Ebola” among other writings was found during the search as well as two envelopes with lists of country club members.
On December 16th 2014 a judge ordered that Hoyt transferred to Devens – a secure federal medical center for a psychiatric evaluation. There is no indication that the evaluation has been completed or that he has been released.
On January 7th a federal grand jury indicted Hoyt on the charges of threatening to murder John Boehner.
