CEDARVILLE (KFSM) – Cedarville residents are under a precautionary boil order Tuesday  (Jan. 13), after a water main line broke and shut off water to parts of town Monday night.

Fred Snipes, with the Cedarville Water Department, said the areas affected are on Cedarville Road, Neal Road, and Highway 162, ending at 1209 Highway 162.

“These are only residents that are affected,” Snipes said. “We’re very fortunate that this did not affect our schools, our stores, our delis or our restaurants here in town.”

Water was restored to residents in those areas around midnight, Snipes said.

Crews took samples of the water to be testedTuesday morning, Snipes said. Those samples will then be run by Fort Smith’s Water Department and results should be returned to Cedarville by the end of this week or by early next week, according to Snipes.

The state health department has been made aware of the issue and is working with the Cedarville officials to get it resolved.

The city will lift the boil order after the test results come back, showing there is not a problem with the water supply, Snipes said. Residents who live in the affected areas will then be notified that the water is safe to drink or use from the tap.
