Game of the Week: Conway and Greenwood Girls

A clash of last year’s 7A and 6A state title winners meet Friday in Greenwood.

When it comes to girls high school basketball there may not be a better game this year than Conway and Greenwood. Both teams won a state title last year in 7A and 6A respectively. The Lady Bulldogs have had a rough week, however, with most of the team battling illness.

"It's hard practicing when you don't have your whole team here," senior point guard Sydnie Henson said. "It's obviously winter and the flu is going around, all these sicknesses are going around. We're not going to use that as an excuse, who's here is going to play."

Jordan Danberry is a senior guard for Conway, who will be a Lady Hog next year, but she's not the only division one talent they have.

"She (Danberry) is a tremendous athlete and a tremendous player but they got three or four more players that play just about like her," head coach Clay Reeves said. "Very explosive, great shooters."

"They're a really good team, they have a lot of division one players and I think we're capable of doing exactly what they can do," Henson said. "We're going to show up and play just like its another game."

There are seven seniors on the Greenwood team and it will take a collective effort and leadership to take home a victory.

"Definitely teamwork," senior guard Peyton Clements said. "It's all we've been focusing on because sometimes we don't work as a team and it just all falls apart so we have to stick together."

"Putting our team first and not ourselves," Henson said. "I think we are coming together as a team a lot better."

"You're not going to see any better basketball team than Conway," Reeves said.
