FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) – The retiring University of Arkansas Chancellor G. David Gearhart will make 80 percent of his chancellor’s salary when he returns to teach, according to a U of A spokesman.

Gearhart said in a statement he is retiring on July 31 to spend more time with his four grandchildren. He announced his retirement on July 12.

The chancellor’s 2014-2015 salary is $339,010, and when he returns to teach in fall 2017, he’ll make $271,208, a spokesman for the university said.

Officials said that it hasn’t been determined what Gearhart will teach when he returns.
