FORT SMITH (KFSM) -- Fort Smith police are investigating a double murder-suicide that happened early Sunday morning (Jan. 18) .

Two people were stabbed with a large knife at an apartment complex on the 500 block of North 12th St. in Fort Smith, according to Sgt. Adam Creek.

Police said the suspect, Bradley Joe White Jr., broke through a kitchen window, then stabbed 23-year-old Bobbie Joe Whillhite, who died on scene.

The other victim, Rocky Dee Prater Jr., died about 2 p.m. at a hospital in Tulsa, officials said.

After the stabbings, the suspect drove back to his home in Mountainburg, where police arrested him, officials said.

Creek said as police were handcuffing the suspect, he died. Police called EMS, but they were unable to revive him, according to Creek.

Investigators believe the suspect died of a drug overdose with prescription medication.

The suspect was on parole, according to police.

The weapon used in the killings has not been located. The three bodies will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for autopsies, according to police.
