GREENWOOD (KFSM) - There is no stage that is too big for Megan Hartness. The Greenwood senior has already seen them all.
Hartness helped the Lady Bulldogs to a state championship twice in the past three seasons and always seems to find a way to put herself, and her team, in the right position.
"She’s just a talented player and she’s always been able to get shots off and she’s been blessed with that ability," Greenwood coach Clay Reeves said.
"Honestly it just kind of comes to me," Hartness said. "That’s my job. That’s what I’m best at so I just try to do my best at it."
Greenwood was on another big stage Friday night as the defending 6A state champion played host to Conway, the defending 7A state champion.
Conway built a 10-point fourth quarter lead but when the Lady Bulldogs needed a boost, they went to Hartness. When Greenwood had possession and the game on the line, Hartness took it to Conway.
Trailing 63-62 in the closing seconds, Hartness drove the lane and drew a foul in the final four seconds. The senior knocked both down and Greenwood won 64-63.
"I've been there before but it was still like the most nerve racking thing I've experienced in a while," Hartness said. "I just didn't think about it and did the best I could."
Greenwood is off to an 18-1 start and are the heavy favorite to bring home another 6A state championship. But that's nothing new to Hartness and company.
"Been on two state championship teams, had a big part of helping win those and state semifinal the other year," Reeves said. "I know what her goal is this year just like every other player on our team and I think they’ll keep fighting hard to get to that point."
