FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) - The University of Arkansas is experiencing an "outbreak of the flu," Provost Sharon L. Gaber said in an email to faculty.

The outbreak is "impacting the well-being of students, faculty and staff," according to the email.

As of Jan. 23, 7.5 percent of the visits to the Pat Walker Health Center for medical care resulted in a flu diagnosis, the email states.

According to CDC definition, the campus is now in a status of "outbreak."

Students who are diagnosed with the flu should be fever-free for at least 24 hours before returning to class or other public gatherings, the email states. Officials also said students can still get vaccinated to lessen the likelihood of contracting the flu.
