Pole Vaulters Lead Hog Track and Field

Seniors Sandi Morris and Andrew Irwin are flying high to lead the Arkansas Track and Field team.

FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) - Track and field dominance is nothing new for the University of Arkansas. Both the men and women's teams are ranked among the top five for indoor in the nation this year.

"I know that we can do really well because if we win indoor SEC's that would be a triple crown for us," senior pole vaulter Sandi Morris said. "So, I'm just happy to be a part of a team that can accomplish something like that."

Morris has been a big part in helping the Hogs chase another conference triple crown. The senior was one jump away from setting a new collegiate record during the Razorback Invitational.

"It would have been an extremely sweet moment, but I'm actually not too disappointed. I PR'd. I jumped 4.65 meters, which is four centimeters above my previous PR. The future looks bright," Morris said.

But, Morris isn't the only one to watch out for on the Hogs track and field team. Senior Andrew Irwin is also setting some records.

"Wound up jumping 18.475," Irwin said. "Set the building record over there. so, that was really nice. We're hoping for a good day today."

Irwin took home another win in pole vault over the weekend, even though it wasn't record setting. Something these athletes say is even sweeter when done in Fayetteville.

"Had a lot of Hog fans out here supporting us. Home meets are always so much fun to have the crowd here cheering for us. Home turf, we know what's going on. Comfortable with the run way," Morris said.

Home or away, this team isn't letting up this season.
