LITTLE ROCK (KTHV) – The Arkansas House of Representatives Local Affairs Committee approved a bill on Wednesday (Feb. 11) that would prohibit future civil rights ordinances, allowing the bill to before the full House for a vote.

The committee voted 12-6 in favor of a bill that would stop local governments from creating ordinances that prohibit discrimination on a basis not contained in state law. The move would block efforts to protect people based on their sexual orientation or gender identity. Neither are protected under state law.

The bill was approved by the Senate on Feb. 9.
