Razorbacks Rout North Dakota In DH Opener

Top of lineup again carries Arkansas in opening weekend win

FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) - It may only be the first weekend of the college baseball season but the Arkansas offense appears to be in mid-season form.

The Razorbacks blew out North Dakota 11-4 in the season opener on Friday then followed that up with a 13-2 rout in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.

For the second straight day the top four in the Arkansas lineup did the majority of the damage. Clark Eagan, Joe Serrano, Andrew Benintendi and Tyler Spoon combined for eight hits and drove in six as the Razorbacks pounded out 16 hits as a team. That quartet combined for seven hits and seven RBI in the season opener on Friday.

Second baseman Ricky Nomura and third baseman Bobby Wernes each drove in a pair of runs as the Razorbacks had four different players drive in multiple runs while five different players scored twice or more.

Dominic Taccolini picked up his first win of the season as he threw six innings while allowing two runs on four hits and struck out eight.

North Dakota's Jeff Campbell provided the lone bright spot for the visiting team as he blasted a two run home run in the sixth, closing the gap to 4-2 at the time. Arkansas responded with six in the bottom half of the inning to blow the game open.
