LITTLE ROCK (KTHV)- On Monday, Governor Asa Hutchinson signed House Bill 1313 into Act 286, giving schools the option of making up missed school days by the hour throughout the year as opposed to at the end of the year.

“[Schools] are going to really put this to great use,” said Representative Charlotte Douglas.

Douglas is representative for Arkansas’ 75th district and head sponsor of the bill turned act.

“In talking with teachers, administrators– they came up with all kinds of ideas on how they would use this to impact student testing,” she said.

Instead of tacking on days at the end of the school year, districts can now add one lump sum to the end of the day, or only a few minutes to each class- to incrementally make up the missed days.
