Rain will continue across the entire area Friday evening with a slow clearing from the west to the east. Rain will be slow to leave on Saturday with clearing skies in the afternoon. Sunday will be the weekend day of choice with highs near 70º. The next rain chance should be around Wednesday of the upcoming week.
Here’s a look at the specifics for the upcoming weekend forecast.
This is the low pressure that’s causing all of the rain. It’s currently located over S. Arkansas and moving northeast. The low is spinning counterclockwise so the rain that will affect our area is what’s moving across Oklahoma this afternoon.
7pm Friday: If you’re headed out for dinner, rain will still be occurring on Friday evening. Plan on a slower than usual drive home from work with a rainy night ahead.
As of Friday afternoon the rain totals have been heaviest across central Arkansas with nearly 2″ of rain in Clarksville. Average totals will be around 1-1.50″ when all of the rain has moved out.
9am Saturday: The wrap-around rain will still be in the area early in the day on Saturday with light rain likely. This is the back edge of the showers and the rain will be slowly ending. Models are in good agreement that the rain will still be in the area on Saturday morning. (See below)
(ECMWF Model at 7am Saturday still showing rain)
(NAM4k Model also showing rain on Saturday at 7am)
Noon Saturday: Most of the rain will be exiting. Expect the clouds to still be thick around Noon.
5pm Saturday: All of the rain will be out of the area to the east with clouds remaining into the evening. There could be some sunshine in Northwest Arkansas before sunset.
6am Sunday: The clearing skies could lead to some locally dense fog on Sunday morning if the winds indeed go calm. The fog will be quick to lift with full sunshine by mid-morning or afternoon.
Noon Sunday: Looks excellent! Lots of sunshine with temperatures in the 60s.
5pm Sunday: Expect clear skies with highs near 70º
The next solid chance for rain will around the middle of next week. By Wednesday, another low pressure system will move in from Texas with abundant gulf moisture and widespread rain likely.
Noon Wednesday, March 18th. Another round of widespread rain will affect the entire region.
Enjoy the weekend!
