SPRINGDALE (KFSM)-- Police have identified the man who died in Friday morning's Springdale shooting, authorities say.

Fabian Rodriguez, 18, of Springdale was named as the man who died. Two more were injured in the shooting.

Police received multiple calls from people who heard gunshots at 3:21 a.m. on Friday (March 13) at the Applegate Apartments at 32 Applegate Dr., according to Sgt. Derek Wright with the Springdale Police Department.

According to authorities, when officers got to the apartments, Rodriguez was found with a gunshot wound. He was then put in an ambulance and taken to Northwest Medical Center where he later died, police said.

Police said they identified a 17-year-old male as the shooter. The teen told police he was inside his apartment when multiple people began to bang on his window, according to authorities.

He also told police one person was holding a machete. The teen began firing a gun through his window, hitting two people outside, according to a news release. Those two people ran away, and the 17-year-old male chased them, still shooting his firearm, the release states.

According to police, the people fleeing got into a car, and the 17-year-old male continued to shoot at them, hitting a third person. Investigators said the teen's mother was home at the time, but doesn't appear to be involved.

Denise Ponder was visiting her daughter and grandson when the shots woke her up early Friday morning.

"I heard a loud noise then I heard three shots, then I heard a pause, and then two more shots," Ponder said.

She said she immediately ran to the living room to check on her family. Ponder said she was saddened to hear teenagers were involved.

"To just think they're doing that and shooting and at that age, and how they got the gun to start with is what scares me," Ponder said.

Aside from Rodriguez, a 14-year-old boy and a 21-year-old woman were also shot, the release states. The woman was driving the car, police said. The 14-year-old boy and 21-year-old woman were both taken to Northwest Medical Center for treatment, according to police.

Lieutenant Derek Hudson said Friday afternoon (March 13) that a gun was recovered in a drainage ditch near the apartment. He said it is unknown if the gun found by police was the one used in the shooting. Hudson said the machete was recovered near Rodriguez's body.

Investigators said they are looking into the possibility that the shooting was gang related.

"There has been a couple incidents between the two groups , the people that were here, so I knew that they knew people through relationships or otherwise because there's been an ongoing issue that we've been dealing with that showed back up here today," Hudson said.

Ponder said her daughter and grandson will be looking for a new place to live.

"I want her out of here, most definitely, I don't want her here no more, I don't feel safe with her here," Ponder said.

The 17-year-old shooter was taken into custody, and he faces charges of second-degree murder, two counts of first-degree battery and possession of a handgun by a minor, the release states. Hudson said the shooter will likely be charged as an adult.
