Top Seed Ends Lady Lions’ First Tournament Trip

UAFS came out cold and fall at top seeded West Texas A&M

CANYON, TX (KFSM) - The UA-Fort Smith Lady Lions knew if they wanted to make a run in the national tournament, their biggest test was likely going to come in the second round.

Unfortunately for UAFS, it did.

The Lady Lions shot just 36 percent and were outrebounded by 20 as No. 1 seed West Texas A&M posted a 70-57 win on their home floor.

UAFS jumped out to an early lead but foul trouble to Angi Ramey opened the rebounding flood gates and the Lady Buffs took advantage despite committing 27 turnovers.

Jasmine Brainard led the way for UAFS with 13 points while Ramey and Ashely Bean each contributed eight. West Texas A&M was paced by Sasha Watson with 20 points.

The Lady Buffs, the No. 5 ranked team in division II, will face No. 2 seeded Colorado-Colorado Springs with a trip to the Elite Eight on the line.
