FORT SMITH (KFSM) – A Fort Smith man that goes by the nickname “Weenie” has been sentenced to more than 17 years for drug trafficking, according to a news release from U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Arkansas Conner Eldridge.
William J. Alexander, 33, was sentenced to 210 months in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release, Eldridge said. He was found guilty of one count of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute.
U.S. Attorney Eldridge commented, “Kids in Fort Smith and across our district deserve to grow up in an environment free from drug trafficking and the crime and violence it brings with it. The sentence announced today reinforces our commitment to work with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies to prosecute and dismantle drug trafficking organizations across the western district of Arkansas.”
In November 2013, DEA agents started investigating large amounts of meth being distributed out of Fort Smith, according to court records. They suspected Alexander was involved in a drug trafficking organization responsible for the distribution of meth, court documents state.
On July 13, 2014, authorities followed Alexander and another individual from Oklahoma to Fort Smith and pulled the two over, according to the release. Inside their vehicle, investigators found seven pounds of meth, the release states.
Both Alexander and the individual were arrested after the meth was found, authorities said.
