FARMINGTON (KFSM) – Waste water overflowed from an aeration pond onto the Valley View Golf Course in March due to a nonoperational waste disposal system on Clubhouse Parkway, according to a report from the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ).

On March 16, an ADEQ employee inspected a facility in the 11000 block of Clubhouse Parkway and found untreated waste water discharging as a result of an overflowing aeration pond, the report states. That same employee noted the facility’s waste disposal system wasn’t operating, officials said.

As a result of the overflow from the aeration pond, waste water flowed onto the Valley View Golf Course, the report states. The facility with the aeration pond is 100 feet from an unnamed tributary of the Illinois River, officials said.

The director of the ADEQ determined that “emergency conditions” exist as a result of the overflow, according to the report.

On March 23, ADEQ personnel took samples of the aeration pond, and results showed fecal coliform bacteria and E. coli levels that were “substantially” above acceptable permitted levels, officials said.

As a result, the ADEQ director ordered the following actions to be taken:

  • The facility shall immediately cease and desist from any and all unpermitted discharges.
  • The facility shall immediately remediate the area impacted by the unpermitted discharges.
  • The facility shall provide pictures and documents by April 6 showing the above two orders were completed.

On March 30, inspectors saw the aeration cell was continuing to overflow onto the golf course, and a Valley View employee said parts had been ordered to repair the treatment system, according to ADEQ. Those parts were scheduled to arrive by April 3, the report states.

5NEWS reached out to ADEQ on April 7 to see if Valley View had submitted the required documents and photographs, but the office was unavailable for comment at the time.
