IRS TAX REFUND

FORT SMITH (KFSM)- Nearly eight out of ten U.S. taxpayers will receive refunds, according to this CNN Money article.

The deadline to file taxes was Wednesday (April 15). The average refund over is approximately $2,800 and has been for the past couple of years, according to recent IRS data. 5NEWS asked residents how they plan to spend their refund.

“[I’m going to] buy running boards for my truck,” Kent Tally said.

Others said they plan to pay down debt, save or use the money for necessities.

Anthony Alliger just moved to the River Valley from Iowa and said he’s already received his tax refund.

“I got two more tattoos and went to Pikes Peak and just spent five days not having to worry about work,” he said.

According to an online survey, only 7-percent of Americans plan to use their refunds on a shopping spree or vacation.
